Anu's Birthday - Mainland China

Been a long time since I wrote something. Lazy but mostly not a blogger.

We went for dinner to Mainland China on Tuesday 13th October to celebrate Anus birthday. Well actually Anus birthday is on the 12th but my mom does not eat Non-vegetarian on Mondays (some religious stuff that I could never understand) so had to postpone the celebration to the next day.

It been about 2 years since the last time I eat in Mainland China. The last time we had gone for their lunch buffet. I dont think I had fond memories of that visit because I remember not finding any choice in the buffet and that it was costly (~Rs 350 per head)

Anu likes chinese cusine and its her birthday.Mainland China has the standard compliment of for a Indian Chinese resturant soups, starters, noodles and rice.

Soups have lost their taste. I had the Chicken Wonton Soup and it was hot water with the steamed wonton with some vegs. Hello where is the chicken broth !!!! atleast a bit to give it a chickeny taste :-(. The only saving grace was the wonton which I dont think any chinese resuturant can spoil. The other soup was the Lemon Coriander Thick soup was again a letdown. Where is the lemony flavor ? Lemon is still cheap guys.

Starter were a saving grace especially the chicken Siu Mai. The Siu Mai is a open dumpling and it melts in your mouth. Recomended. The fish panfried was ok. Nothing great but just ok.

As for the rest of the meal it was as usual. Its difficult for a chinese resturant to messup on the noodles and fried rice and neither did Mainland China. The Sizzling Fish that we ordered was ok, nothing to rave about.

All in all the meal options in Mainland china was just another normal Chinese meal that you can get in any decent Chinese resturant in Bangalore ( By decent I start from say Rice Bowl :-) )

The ambiance is more business hotel like but the staff seems to have lost their smile somewhere. Except for a young kid who smiled when my 9 month son started getting noisy the rest of the staff had a frown on their face. Maybe something to do with the slow down and pay (after all the ground floor was empty and the 1st floor was 75% full, cant say anything about the 2nd floor ).

For all the great (:-() food and the ambiance the food turned out on the silghtly higher side (around Rs 500 per person). Although this is in line with other resturants of this class, the problem is that there is nothing special here to go back to. I guess I didn't known what to order ( that where the service comes in doesn't it) or I just don't like what the Indians have done to chinese cuisine ( yes I have had authentic chinese cuisine in china)

Overall a normal chinese resturant which you go to because its close to where you work and dont want to adventure into the Bangalore traffic

We did not plan to go there, but ended up there for lunch by chance and what a bad choice it was.
The ambiance is good - more precisly it is clean and is naturally lit. But thats about the only good thing about the place. The food, supposedly italian should be classified more as totally indian italian.
The Spaghetti had a completely indian taste, too much red chillies.
The grilled fish was just ok - grilled, bland and served with a tomato stuffed with mashed potato and lime butter.
The quantity is great for some on diet and the price too much for the taste and quantity.
Service is another let down, the waiters dont want to serve and a more happy out of sight. They even take a long time to get the bill. They should atleast improve this, people can go up to the food court and fill their stomachs and wash away the excellent taste
